Household Garbage (not Recycling) should be tied in plastic bag and deposited into the garbage chute. Large bags of garbage should be brought down to the basement and placed inside the compactor room. No bags of garbage should be placed inside the recycling bin.
Cat litter, animal waste, & diapers
Items must be placed in tightly sealed bags before disposing of in the designated bin located in the basement.
Metal, Glass, Plastic & Cartons
Recycling materials should be rinsed and placed inside the recycling bin. No food or containers with food should be placed inside the recycling bin.
MIXED PAPER and CARDBOARDS
Large cardboard boxes, newspapers and magazine should be flattened down, tied together and brought down to basement garbage area.
composting
Curbside composting is easy! It is collected weekly on our recycling day. Putting leaf and yard waste, food scraps, and food-soiled paper in bins with secure lids keeps rats out and our streets clean. Collect your food scraps, food -soiled paper, and plant waste in any bag or container in your apartment. Then, empty the scraps from your home into your building’s brown compost bin located in the basement as you exit the buildings via the Service Entrances B and/or D.
Bulk Items - Furniture/Mattresses
Bulk Items such as any sofas, dressers, cabinets, desk, tables, bed frames and mattresses should be brought down to the basement only on the day before bulk pick up. Bulk pickup is every Tuesday so Bulk items should only be brought down on Monday before 3pm. Mattresses should be covered in plastic sheets and tightly tied with tape before removing them from the apartment.
Batteries
Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable batteries found in electric bikes and scooters, cars, laptops, tablets, phones and common household devices. It is illegal and dangerous to put lithium-ion batteries in your trash or recycling. You can drop them off for free at many stores, including most Staples and Best Buy locations. Learn more on the Battery Recycling page. You may put non-rechargeable alkaline household batteries in your regular trash.
Electronics
Electronics should be brought down to the garbage storage area to be placed inside the storage lockers.
Appliances
Appliances should be brought down to basement and placed in the storage area. Always make sure to notify maintenance staff before any appliance is brought down to the basement. Before any bulk items or appliances are to be discarded, please notify maintenance staff so that elevators can padded for protection. Failure to do so can result in fines and penalties imposed.
Anyone not following this rule will be subject to fines/penalties.
